A minimum, fixed by law
A state's National and Festival Holidays Act, or its Shops & Establishments law, sets how many paid holidays employees must get in a year: the national holidays, plus a number of festival holidays.

What the law requires
A state's National and Festival Holidays Act, or its Shops & Establishments law, sets how many paid holidays employees must get in a year: the national holidays, plus a number of festival holidays.
In most states the employer chooses the festival holidays, often after consulting employees, from the festivals the state lists, and displays the list at the workplace.
An employee who works on a national or festival holiday is usually entitled to twice the day's wages, or a day's wages plus a substitute holiday, as the state law provides.
Employers keep the holiday register the state prescribes. Breaches carry the fines set in each state's Act.
