The EHS audit
One site, checked three ways
An EHS audit tests a site against the law, industry standards and its own policies. Most sites should be audited at least once every 12 months, and high-risk industries often quarterly or half-yearly.
New machinery, an expansion, a change in the law or an incident can call for an audit sooner. We support internal and external audits, and close the gaps they find. These are the checks a site has to pass.

The cost of non-compliance
What an EHS lapse can shut down
Environmental law can close a unit or cut off its power and water. Penalties under the pollution laws now run to lakhs, and hazardous-process duties under the OSH Code carry imprisonment.

The law behind it
Four laws behind most EHS work
EHS duties come from several laws at once. Which licences apply depends on your industry, size and operations, but most of them trace back to these four.
- Water
- 1974Water Act
- The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act regulates effluent discharge. Discharging effluent needs the Pollution Control Board's consent.
- Air
- 1981Air Act
- The Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act regulates industrial emissions, through the same system of Pollution Control Board consents.
- Environment
- 1986EP Act
- The Environment (Protection) Act is the base for environmental regulation and for clearances on projects with an environmental impact. The Hazardous and Other Wastes Rules, 2016 and the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 govern waste.
- Workplace
- 2020OSH Code
- In force since 21 November 2025, for safety, health and working conditions. It also makes the employer responsible for disposing of hazardous and toxic waste, including e-waste.
Licences in practice
Four licences, four different routes
Each has its own authority, its own documents and its own renewal cycle. We handle the application, coordinate the inspection that follows and keep track of the renewals.

Fire NOC
Site drawings, occupancy details, fire-fighting system data and earlier approvals go to the local fire department or Chief Fire Officer. The fire authority inspects the premises and issues the NOC once its requirements are met.
Lift licence
The state or municipal lift authority needs the lift's details, installation drawings, inspection certificates and load-test reports. Periodic inspections and renewals then keep the licence valid.
Trade licence
Renewed within the municipal or state renewal window, against the existing licence, tax receipts and occupancy certificate. A missed window invites notices and penalties.
Hazardous waste authorisation
Needed where a site handles or generates hazardous substances. It brings an annual return, and records of how the waste is stored, treated and disposed of.

FAQ
Questions about EHS compliance
Can't find your answer? Ask us on WhatsApp and we'll reply within 2 working hours.
What does EHS compliance cover?
It covers the environmental, health and safety laws that apply to your sites. In practice that means licences such as Pollution Control Board consents, lift licences and Fire NOCs. It means records such as health and sanitation records, and filings such as the annual hazardous waste return and the fire safety audit certificate. Waste management and safety measures on the ground complete it.
Who needs EHS compliance services?
Any organisation under central or state EHS regulation, in sectors such as manufacturing, construction, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, healthcare and waste management. Offices and retail outlets have EHS duties too. What applies depends on the nature of the business, the industry and the building it runs from.
Which licences does a factory or warehouse need for EHS?
Typically Pollution Control Board consents, environmental clearance where required, a Fire NOC, DG set consent and a lift licence if there are lifts. Depending on operations, add hazardous waste or chemical registrations, and authorisations for battery, plastic, e-waste or bio-medical waste. An FSSAI licence and legal metrology registration can also apply. We identify what applies to each site, then apply, follow up and renew.
How often should an EHS audit be done?
At least once every 12 months for most organisations. High-risk industries often need quarterly or half-yearly audits. A change in the law, an expansion, new machinery or an incident can call for an extra one.
How do you get a Fire NOC?
Gather the site drawings, occupancy details, fire-fighting system data and earlier approvals, and make sure the premises meets the fire-fighting requirements. Apply to the local fire department or the Chief Fire Officer, who inspects the premises before issuing the NOC. We prepare the application, coordinate the inspection and manage the renewals.
Does the OSH Code change EHS compliance?
The OSH Code, in force since 21 November 2025, is now the law for workplace safety, health and working conditions. It requires employers to keep the workplace free of hazards and to dispose of hazardous and toxic waste, including e-waste. It also requires free annual health examinations for the classes of employees the rules specify. Central rules were notified on 8 May 2026, and states are still notifying theirs.
Can you manage EHS across sites in several states?
Yes. We serve employers across India from our head office in Bengaluru. Fire NOCs, lift licences and trade licences follow state and municipal rules, so the work differs from site to site. Your relationship manager maps the obligations unit by unit and coordinates the people at each site who need to act.
What does EHS compliance cost?
It depends on the number of units, the licences each one needs and the returns they file. Send us an enquiry with your sites and activities, and we will come back with a quote.
